| When you are having trouble resolving personal issues your entire life can be turned upside down. Relationships struggle, work or school becomes overwhelming and stress continues to grow and consume you. This is especially frustrating when you can not figure out what the problem is. |
Clinical Hypnosis Can Help You Get To The Source Of The ProblemWe often spend a lot of time and money treating the symptoms that present themselves without trying to figure out what is causing them. Emotions, such as depression, anxiety and anger, are brought about to tell us that something is wrong. They are symptoms of the issue that is troubling us. We may react to a traumatic event, for example, by becoming depressed. The depression itself is not the problem, it's our reaction to what has happened to us. When We Have Physical Ailments We Treat The Problem, Not The SymptomIf you break your leg the doctor is going to focus on the broken bone. They may cast it, give you crutches and tell you to stay off of it until the bone is no longer broken. If the doctor were to treat the pain and swelling around the broken bone and ignore the actual break, you would most likely not get better. You may feel temporary relief from the treatment, but would continue to struggle because of the fact that your bone is broken. Emotional Issues Are Best Treated In The Same Manner As Physical OnesGoing back to the example of depression resulting from a traumatic event, treating the depression would be like treating the soreness and swelling of the broken leg. What needs to be looked at is the traumatic event and how it impacted the individual to the point where they began to depress. Sometimes Just Talking About Your Problems Isn't EnoughIt's not unusual for a person who works through their issue with talk therapy to remain stuck and continue to carry their symptoms. We may even consciously say to ourselves that we do not want to feel this way and are going to change. We make attempts to change, but continue to fall into the same patterns that are causing our symptoms. We've done the work and have made the effort to change, so why are we still feeling this way? The Subconscious Mind Is Where We Store All That We Have Learned, Both Good And BadThere are certain ways to store memories into our subconscious mind. One way is by repetition. If you do something over and over again, the subconscious is going to take it as important and make it an automatic behavior. Habits such as smoking, nail biting or even which sock you put on first in the morning are formed this way. Another way is when we are emotionally vulnerable, such as when a traumatic event occurs or when we have a surgical procedure. During such times, our minds are more open to what is said or done to us. We take in such things, whether good or bad, and imprint them into our subconscious. Our subconscious then makes them a part of our daily living. For example, a person who is in a car crash may have a splitting headache when the paramedics arrive. When asked how he is feeling, he responds by saying that his head hurts. The paramedic proceeds to tell him that if his head hurts he must be alive. The man in the accident makes a full recovery but continues to have headaches. Nothing medically is found wrong with him and he continues to have headaches for years. Everyone keeps treating the headache (symptom) with no success. The problem in this case is what was how he interpreted what was said to him during the accident. His subconscious mind took what was said to mean that in order to be alive, he had to have a headache. Treat the problem (what was said during the traumatic event, how it was interpreted, and reframe it) and the symptom (headache) will be reduced or completely go away.
